I used only four colors in this illustration.

It’s been nearly six months since I began the on-line illustration course.

With achy hands slowing things down, and time consuming watercolor exercises, I’ve not been able to produce the quantity of work I should have by now.

But the quality of my work has improved in leaps and bounds with each project I do.

Watercolor is truly a beautiful medium to work with and I can’t wait till I master it.

Change is good.

Plan B kicked in when I was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome last year. This condition has put an end to my 15 year career as a hairstylist. It has also put an end to my ability to draw portraits using the crosshatching method, which was my area of expertise. Unfortunately, my hand and wrist can no longer tolerate the repetitive motion this technique requires.

Since drawing has always been my mode of self-expression, I sought out to find other forms of drawing and painting that would not aggravate my condition.  Luckily, I found an on-line Illustration course by Mark Mitchell titled, “Make your Splashes- Make your Marks.”  For the next five months, I'll be illustrating a re-make of "Little Red Riding Hood."  This form of illustration is very gentle on the hand; it involves light sketching and watercolor painting.

I began the course a month ago and already I've been drawing differently; and learning tons about the industry.  Definitely in need of brushing up on composition and painting techniques, but I love the challenge.  I look forward to creating my first illustrated children’s story.
